Groenkom Pinzyl Stud

PinZyl cattle breed logo

In 2010, Thabaphaswa established the Groenkom Pinzyl Stud.

The PinZyl is a fairly new breed of cattle still under the status of a "Developing Breed". It is a composite breed of Sanga (mainly Nguni) females and Pinzgauer bulls as the two foundation breeds. We started with this second stud because we believe that the PinZyl has a great future in Southern Africa.

We are also eager to learn about the scientific principles of breeding an outstanding composite breed of cattle and excited about the challenge to apply these principles sucessfully in practice. In this respect it is, inter alia, important to start with high quality cows and bulls. Furthermore, a wide genetic base is of great importance when developing such a composite breed.

Despite the high cost involved, we began with embryo flushing. Only approved embryo donors that are highly fertile Nguni cows, are being flushed. Semen from a wide variety of Pinzgauer bulls - including semen imported from Australia - is being used.

A new PinZyl Breeders Group has now been established with three pioneer breeders of this breed and ourselves. Please see the Pinzyl Pioneers website for more information about this breed and the Breeders Group.
